Last week, renowned climate change activist Greta Thunberg, along with fellow activists, gathered outside JP Morgan's Canary Wharf office to protest against the bank's financing of fossil fuel campaigns. This Swedish climate activist joined the Fossil Free London protest to express her concerns over government officials profiting from the climate crisis. The activists took a stand by blocking the entrance to JP Morgan's Canary Wharf office, passionately chanting "Oily money out" while waving yellow flags and banners.

One campaigner said, "They are making billions of profit yearly at a time of worsening inequality when so much of the world is being devastated by the climate crisis."

In a statement issued through Fossil Free London, Thunberg emphasized, "We have no choice but to disrupt" because "our world is being swept away by greenwashing and lies."She added: "The fossil fuel industry has actively distracted and delayed. They have created loopholes to allow their business to go on at the expense of the planet. We are choking from their fumes."

They believe that JP Morgan should refrain from any new investments in fossil fuels and that some of their billions of profits should go towards losses and damages that communities like Afghanistan have experienced due to climate change. They argue that financial support should be extended to help these communities cope with the consequences of climate change.

Greta Thunberg was later arrested for a failure to comply with a "condition imposed under Section 14 of the Public Order Act," the police statement outlined. Nuri Syed Corser, an organizer with Fossil Free London, said, "We need direct action to take back the power from the oil elite that has gathered here today behind closed doors. Their only plan is to profit at our expense. Arrests like these will not deter us. Our right to protest is our own."

In conclusion, Greta Thunberg's participation in the Fossil Free London protest serves as a powerful reminder of the urgency in addressing climate change. Her arrest and unwavering dedication, along with the collective efforts of climate activists, spotlight the need to confront the fossil fuel industry's influence and demand sustainable solutions to safeguard our planet for future generations.
